SASA Talks With Saabirah Lawrence
We love getting to know career women from different walks of life. Today we have a chat with Saabirah, who is a content creator and podcast host. We talk about her career journey, challenges along the way and so much more!
What is your current job title?
Wellness & Lifestyle Content Creator
What inspired you to become a content creator?
I originally started writing as a form of self-expression, it then became something I was extremely passionate about, and I realised that in sharing my experiences and thoughts I could contribute to important conversations and influence small changes in my community. The inspiration now is to continue to contribute to taboo topics and encourage self-compassion throughout life's challenges.
Name a challenge in your career journey you didn’t expect?
I always took breaks when I needed them because I never wanted to lose the passion I had for creating content. However, I didn't prepare myself for what happens when life has some difficult changes. I have been on and off of social media and it has mainly been because I don't have that same passion I once had. Now I am on the path to regaining that passion.
What is the best part of doing what you do?
The ability to be myself, I have learned a lot about myself during this journey and it has been incredibly encouraging to have people affirm that the reason they engage and like what I do is because it is done in an authentic way.
What does being a working woman mean to you?
It means balancing passions, work and rest. It is reminding myself that I have to be the best me in order to give my best and that may mean taking a break, needing a helping hand and prioritising time for myself.
What is the one piece of advice you would give to other women at the start of their career journeys?
Starting really is the hardest part, but once you start you will learn as you do, don't feel like you need to be perfect in order to start because you will never start because perfection doesn't exist.
