The Other Person in The Mirror

There are always two people when you look at the mirror. Though they may be identical, but sometimes they are actually two different people. It takes one to find out the who the other is.

In the real world, each human is twice himself. Not only because there are two images when you stand in front of a mirror, but because man duplicates his body and inserts a different soul inside. Sounds strange right?

I hear a lot of comedians make fun of some ladies whom their husbands saw their natural face without make-up for the first time on their wedding nights. This is no news. Back when I was in the University, I met so many girls who could not step out of their rooms without a make-up. There was a lady who will wake up very early, have her shower and seat down to a makeup of about two hours. Hardly did one see her natural face, except if you had to go to her bed at night and peep what she really looked like. That is a life outside this world! So shall we look into this? Sure! Let’s talk some more.

Research tells us that 67% of ladies wear makeup as a result of low self-esteem. In other words, make-up is a mask or a medication for what they are truly suffering on the inside. Now, just before you slit my throat open because I can see some fist coming at me, let me clear the air; I love makeup! So you can calm down and take a deep breath.

Andrew Matthews said “A healthy self-love means we have no compulsion to justify to ourselves or others why we take vacations, why we sleep late, why we buy new shoes, why we spoil ourselves from time to time. We feel comfortable doing things which add quality and beauty to life.”

Now, it may not necessarily be a makeup, it could just be that veil which you hide behind or under. Many ladies have sewn the curtain which they hide behind. It is called ‘low self-esteem’. You hardly speak well of yourself, or you are always in the habit of thinking there is someone else out there who does it better or you are just not worth it enough. Well, you are not wrong when you think there is someone else who does it better than you. But do you know when you are wrong? It is when you don’t know that you can do it too better than someone else! Ohh! You didn’t know that? Yes, someone else is also looking up to you too!

You are important and you need to take yourself importantly. You shouldn’t wash all your confidence down a drain. How long do you think you can hide behind the curtain? The audience are anxiously waiting for you to pull off a good show. The moment you stepped into this world, everyone gathered at your ‘birth bed’ to make a wish, waiting to see what super powers you have come with. It is up to you to pull off a good show!

Low self-esteem is what gives you a body which people see, but a different soul deep down which you battle with. It is what makes the person inside the mirror look just like you but you know they are not the same person. Some people who suffer low self-esteem struggle to belong. Having fought for long they end up slipping into a shell of their own.

Hey! Listen! There is so much space in the world. Have you not noticed? There is room enough for you. Confidence has no currency so you don’t have to buy it. It is an outfit and you have it in your wardrobe. So put it on everywhere you go!

Louise L. Hay says, “You have been criticizing yourself for years, and it hasn’t worked. Try approving of yourself and see what happens.”

Girl, even if it was only a strand of hair you had, or a bulgy tummy, or a hoarse voice, or a crooked leg, or millions of pimples on your face, be proud of who you are! Think of yourself highly. Many people are labelled disadvantaged but the mention of their names makes a big bang! Do you want to do some googling? Okay, you can start with Adenike Oyetunde. What have you got?
